Challenge

The current search engine was significantly underperforming, impacting user experience and sales due to: Prolonged search times (up to 32 seconds) from product selection to checkout. Irrelevant search results, for example, searching for "water" returning unrelated items like "banana," causing user frustration and abandoned carts. Lack of personalization and absence of visual feedback elements such as loading indicators and recent searches. Monolithic backend architecture, which restricted scalability and impeded modular enhancements.

Solution

Led the end-to-end search redesign — microservices backend, personalized results, autocomplete, and edge-case handling. Partnered with engineering and data science, validated with 100 beta users. Cut load time from 32s to 12s, driving a +3.7% sales lift in 36 days post-launch.
